Colca Trek
If you are wanting a more intimate experience of the one of the world’s deepest canyons, the Colca Trek offers you a guided hike into the canyon with the opportunity to relax by the Colca River, explore the same scenic trails used by the locals, and spend the night with a Peruvian family.
FIRST DAY: AREQUIPA -> CONDOR CROSS -> CABANACONDE -> SAN JUAN OF CHUCCHO
We depart from Hostal Solar very early, 3:30am, in order to catch a glimpse of the Andean condor at “Cruz del Condor” on our way to Cabanaconde (3,270mts/10,730 ft).
From Cabanaconde we begin hiking the locally used trails descending into the canyon where we can then relax beside the refreshing Rio Colca. From the river we walk up hill to the village of San Juan of Chuccho where we settle into the traditional housing generously offered by the local families of the canyon. (Approximate hiking time: 4 hours).
SECOND DAY: SAN JUAN OF CHUCCHO -> COSNIRHUA -> MALATA -> SANGALLE (OASIS)
After breakfast, we begin our second day of hiking by exploring the deep canyon life, visiting multiple villages such as Cosnirhua and Malata, and witnessing traditional agricultural practices. We will end the day at Sangalle (The “OASIS”) where we rest, enjoy the swimming pools, and stroll along the Rio Colca. We will end the evening with a delicious dinner before settling into the cozy, traditional housing offered by the families of Sangalle. (Approximate total hiking time: 4 hours).
THIRD DAY: SAN GALLE -> CABANACONDE -> AREQUIPA
Taking advantage of the cool hours before dawn, we leave very early (4:00am). Using our flash lights, we climb back towards Cabanaconde where we enjoy a mega-breakfast before heading back to Arequipa. We stop along the way to visit several interesting towns of the Colca Canyon with an optional medicinal dip in the Chivay hot springs. (Approximate total hiking time: 4 hours).
