An extended circular hike using an alternative and rarely used trail into and along the Colca canyon. We also visit the famous Cruz del Condor, camp at the “Oasis” and visiting several remote villages en route to experience life in one of the World Deepest canyons.
Leaving from the Hostal Solar very early (06:30) we drive to Cabanaconde village (3270mts, 10730 ft) an hour before we stop at the “Cruz del Condor” to watch the glimpse of the Andean condor close and to appreciate the deepest part of the Canyon. From Cabanaconde we start the trekking following a rarely used trail descending 3 hours into the Canyon to enjoy a rest spot beside the refreshing Rio Colca. From the river we walk about 40 minutes up hill to the villaje of San Juan of Chuccho. Here we set up camp and enjoy a delicious dinner. 4 hours approx. Of hike.
After the breakfast we begin our 4 hour hike, visiting different towns in the right side of the Canyon and experiencing life, deep in the canyon and their different agricultural practice. We visit Little towns like Cosnirhua and Malata,
Tapay before arriving at San Galle (The “OASIS”) where we rest and enjoy the swimming pools and walks to Rio Colca. Camp over night and bonfire. 4 hours approx. Of hiking.
Taking advantage of the cool and fresh pre-dawn, we leave very early (04:00) and using our flash lights, climb back towards Cabanaconde. The ascent takes about 3 hours and we arrive in Cabanaconde in time for a mega breakfast and meet our vehicle again. We then head off by vehicle, visiting en route several interesting towns of the Colca canyon, with an optional medicinal dip in the Chivay hot springs before, returning tour hotel in time for lunch. 4 hours approx.
